How can we improve Directory Monitor?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Group view: "expend all" and "collapse all"

    Under the Grip view when column is grouped, have an option to "expend all" and "collapse all" instead of doing it one by one

  2. pasue / resume

    Add pause/resume option in right click menu on monitoring directories.
    You may give this option for pro version.

  3. Prevent directory automatically expand

    During the directory is grouped and collapse, prevent the directory automatically expand when new activities occurs.

  4. Pause feature

    It would be helpful to have a "Pause" feature to temporarily stop monitoring a directory without having to remove it from the list. Maybe via "Right-Click" to a particular directory in the list?

  7. Option to take snapshot without program running in back ground.

    Hi, I have been using a program called "Uninstall Manager"
    http://samsunsegman.com/um/index.htm
    which has not been updated since 2005.
    Incredibly it works on my Win7 64Bit. I wish the guy would update it for win7 & 8 but even though the website is there, it looks like he has abandoned it.
    This program does not run in the background which is what I like.
    You run it to take a snapshot and the next time you run it, it shows what was newly created on your computer. Which is great so you can see what is new after installing programs.

    This feature is already available. Directory Monitor can take snapshots of a directory and try determine the changes while the software was not running.

    When you start the application a snapshot is taken for any directories that have the option enabled. You can then exit the application and start it up later, the previous snapshot will be compared and any changes will be logged as events.

    This feature is only available in the PRO edition and can be accessed from Directories → Add/Edit → Try determine changes while directory was offline using snapshots.

    The primary purpose of this feature though is to help identify changes in the case of network or even power outages. The most accurate detection will always be while the software is running.

  8. Add variable %oldfile% to better be able to rename files in a sync destination

    %oldfullfile% is cumbersome if you need to use it on the destination folder of a copy or sync operation

  10. Limit number of emails that can be sent in a time period

    To avoid getting spammed with email (or flooding your email server) when a directory gets busy, a limit should be set on how many emails can be sent in a given time period.

    A option to set the maximum number of emails as well as per minute/hour/day. Another option would be to send each backlogged (individually or in a batch which limits the subject macros) as soon as the cooldown period has passed. The user could also opt to ignore all emails and only start sending fresh ones after the cool down.
