This facility is now available here: https://directorymonitor.com/deactivate2

There is enough information on how to deactivate, you simply use Help → Deactivate from the software.

There is some brief information on deactivating here: https://directorymonitor.com/faq#transfer-unlock-key

There is also a dated article here: https://deventerprise.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/298584-unlocking-directory-monitor

  7. Provide a method to recovery directory changes if Directory Monitor service goes down

Thisi is only an idea of a newbee:

what if server where DirectoryMonitor is running as a service goes down or the Directory Monitor Service itself goes down while monitoring a network folder on another server ? If I have understood how DM is working, now when Directory service starts again it looses all the changes in that network folder done when DM was down.

I ask this because in my company there are important documents to monitor and my boss should be feel confident that he will never lose any changes happening in the directory of those important documents.

This feature (called “snapshots”) has been available for some time already. In the main directory configuration form, simply enable snapshots by selecting the option to “Try determine changes while directory was offline using snapshots every”.

This applies to whether a network share goes down or even if the software was not running. When starting up, the directory will be compared against a previously taken snapshot to determine the changes while the monitor was not able to access it.

This is of course not foolproof since files could be added then deleted when offline and there is no way Directory Monitor would know the file was even there. The service is very resilient and has automatic restart strategies if it crashes so it’s unlikely to be down for very long.

Directory Monitor does have a few command line parameters (something worth documenting so we’ll get on that).

The command-line switch you are looking for would be “/shell” which is what the context menu shortcut on any directory right-click → Add to Directory Monitor uses.

    To mimic this you can call: “C:\Program Files\DevEnterprise.NET\Directory Monitor 2\DirectoryMonitor.exe” /shell “C:\AnyFullPath”
    to add a directory.

Is this what you are looking for?

  15. Monitor folder and send alert when there have been no events in a specified timeframe

Add functionality to set a time or date threshold on a directory and create a log entry/send email alert when no file events have occurred outside of that threshold.

    For example:

    -Threshold set to 48 hours.
-No files are moved or renamed in the monitored folder for over 48 hours
-Inactivity event is logged, and an email is sent to a distribution list notifying them that the folder has been inactive for x number of hours or days.

The option is now available on the main monitoring options screen (when adding or editing a directory).

Even if the software was not running, inactivity will be picked up from the last known event that occurred while it was running.

    Officially released with v2.10.8.0

  16. Option to take snapshot without program running in back ground.

Hi, I have been using a program called "Uninstall Manager"
    http://samsunsegman.com/um/index.htm
which has not been updated since 2005.
Incredibly it works on my Win7 64Bit. I wish the guy would update it for win7 & 8 but even though the website is there, it looks like he has abandoned it.
This program does not run in the background which is what I like.
You run it to take a snapshot and the next time you run it, it shows what was newly created on your computer. Which is great so you can see what is new after installing programs.

This feature is already available. Directory Monitor can take snapshots of a directory and try determine the changes while the software was not running.

When you start the application a snapshot is taken for any directories that have the option enabled. You can then exit the application and start it up later, the previous snapshot will be compared and any changes will be logged as events.

This feature is only available in the PRO edition and can be accessed from Directories → Add/Edit → Try determine changes while directory was offline using snapshots.

The primary purpose of this feature though is to help identify changes in the case of network or even power outages. The most accurate detection will always be while the software is running.

  18. Localization volunteer

    Hello DM2 dev guys,

I'm from China and I've been using Directory Monitor 2 for weeks, really helps a lot with my daily work. Now I want to recommend it to my team leader, but he's not able to read English. So I'd like to volunteer in translating the interface texts.

I've done several localization projects, and currently maintaining the zh_CN translation for InoReader.com all by myself.

When the translation is needed and ready to push online, please let me know so that I can help.

Syncing files can be done with executing batch files (any any other script such as VB Script) with the exact specifications you want. I’ve provided two examples, RoboCopy for intelligent full syncing (much like what BeyondCompare will let you do) and a manual copy sync which seems to be what is built into Folder Watch.

    https://deventerprise.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/270487-synchronize-files

Directory Monitor was never intended to be a file copier or syncing application but with the ability to execute any application or script that you want you can extend it’s capabilities to exactly what you need.

  20. pasue / resume

Add pause/resume option in right click menu on monitoring directories.
You may give this option for pro version.
    Thank you :-)
