How can we improve Directory Monitor?

  1. Add more options for include/exclude Patterns

    Hi,
    RegEx for Patterns are already requested, but I which to have an Option for File Size Less,Equal Greater with Filter Events in a Directory Monitor.

  2. More event time accurancy

    There is only hh.mm.ss. I have to know exact time (milliseconds or nanoseconds) for order rows in the grid.
    Also column "ID" with incrementing number will bee very useful for the grid sort.

  3. Column with the ProcessID

    I missing ProcessID. There are ofter more same application running (including DLLHost, svchost etc.) and I have to identify whole instance/process. Current "Process" contains path to application exe only.

  4. Additional action options within the application

    Would be great if the software would allow copy/move/delete file actions as an event instead of having to create/maintain a .bat file to execute upon trigger.

  8. Monitor Number of files in folder

    Be able to set a file number monitor for a folder.
    And alert when number of files are above or below that.

    E.g. If number of files exceeds 500 in a folder send alert.
    If number of files are below 17 in a folder send alert.

  9. Check file type changes to help stop Ramsonware

    Trace file type change.
    This would help with Ramsonware.
    They change the file type from eg. Excel file type to something else due to encryption and they do it on several files within a short period of time.

    More information in the form of in-app help, i.e. install process, system minimum requirements for the main app and the config assistant, best practices (DNS names vs ip addresses)

  11. Cryptolocker / ransomware

    Hello there, I'm a very happer user of your product, I generally do not use it for anything else but trying to catch a cryptolocker / ransomware in the act.

    I believe I have configured it so it works very well,

    my biggest "issue" is that because I have the software looking at so many servers / pc's it takes forever to edit each job, Could it be possible if that you create a template, let's say a group. a group called "ransomware" and then inside the job under Main -> Filters instead of typing in each Include patterns that…

    This is a very common use case for a lot of users. The actions that users take however varies quite a bit based on their own requirements. Some people configure firewall rules, some run removal tools, some shut-down the PC etc, in almost all cases and email is sent. For us to provide this configuration and necessary filters out -of-the-box would require a significant investment in continued research of crypto malware in order to keep monitoring effective.

    That being said, we may still pursue this because when configured correctly, Directory Monitor is very effective as an early detection system for crypto viruses and has already been successful in numerous live installations. With enough support for this idea we may take this on.

    Have the ability to automatically monitor any symlinked or junction point directories.

  18. Provide a self contained reporting website

    Have a website reporter that can report using database entries created by the application. Essentially, it would search the data based on a drop down of users, calendar dates, event types. Be nice if it could then export the results to excel and/or a pdf. This would be a simple self contained website you could drop to an IIS server.

  20. Ability to globally change directory settings

    Ability to change specific directory settings on multiple directories at once. A grid edit feature could also be useful.

    For example:
    check/uncheck monitor subdirectories for all directories
